Oh Dear? Error? WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

"Sorry, something unexpected happened. First make sure that you are within 40 meters of Fish Hunt area. Second if after 3 casts buoy still doesn't work please ask fishing place owner to reset fishing buoy."

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

Ok there is a 2 part point to this, that comes with many variables to consider... (provided you are actually 30m of the buoy, yes 30, not 40, THIRTY)


MOSTLY this is a THROTTLE imposed by second life. So what does that mean?

It means the amount of data flow in and out of that region has reached it's maximum, so no more data flow is allowed, this is NOT limited to our games.. It also counts other games, other items, other stuff communicating in and out of second life within that region at that time, it's all a part of that data flow. So if the amount of data from that region has reached second life's imposed limit then no more will come in or out and our games will return this error, the buoy, your rod, your HUD, your shubbie (AND EVERYONE ELSE'S) can no longer communicate outside second life along with all the other things in that region using outside communication.

So what can be done? Well... in short, stop casting, everyone stop casting, yeah good luck getting others to understand. We try, good god we try! wait 10-15 minutes for it to settle and go back to fishing. Again, good luck! So just stop and wait, cast again in 10-15 minutes and see, if still returning error, wait again, then try again in 10-15 minutes. Rinse and repeat. If this annoys you too much, then leave and fish somewhere else. LGH can't change how second life does things, the land owner can't change how second life does things. Being a nuisance to the land owner or to LGH staff, will not change any of that, it'll just get you on wrong side of both.

The other cause could be SIM lag, however that is highly noticeable, your rod timer will be way too slow, you'll rubber band (eg: sling shot back when moving) and such other things, and is often not the actual case even though many scream LAG when they see it. There is also a VERY important part to this, lag is often circumstantial, in fact more often than not, is on the users end due to incorrect computer performance, wrong viewer settings to suit net speed or computer specs or combination of both. Another thing many won't accept, the issue lies with them, not the SIM or second life. You can fix this, but up to you to look for answers and do so. If it truly is SIM lag, well again nothing you can do, the land owner can try a land restart to fix the issue but may or may not sort it, however that is up to the land owner to do and not for players to harass land owner to do so. If this issue annoys you, move to a different land/buoy...

So there you have it, an explanation to your error message.

This one is a touch trickier and has some more points to it to explain...

-------------BLUE BUOYS-------------

In short on a blue buoy you get this because of lag, usually YOUR end due to incorrect viewer settings to suit your net connection or computer specs.

The other cause could be SIM lag, however that is highly noticeable, your rod timer will be way too slow, you'll rubber band (eg: sling shot back when moving) and such other things, and is often not the actual case even though many scream LAG when they see it. There is also a VERY important part to this, lag is often circumstantial, in fact more often than not, is on the users end due to incorrect computer performance, wrong viewer settings to suit net speed or computer specs or combination of both. Another thing many won't accept, the issue lies with them, not the SIM or second life. You can fix this, but up to you to look for answers and do so. If it truly is SIM lag, well again nothing you can do, the land owner can try a land restart to fix the issue but may or may not sort it, however that is up to the land owner to do and not for players to harass land owner to do so. If this issue annoys you, move to a different land/buoy...

It can also be similar to the error throttle where data was reduced but not entirely stopped.

The important part, NOTE IMPORTANT.. is the part that says this "your catch was added to your earnings just fine"... this means you still got paid, HUZZAH! 

 


-------------YELLOW/RED BUOYS-------------

Often more noticed on yellow buoys as they can hold multis, or are more frequented over reds these days.

This is a bit different from BLUE buoys, why? different internal scripting.

MOST COMMON cause of the oh dear message on these two coloured buoys is simply... A WRIGGLE!... Something that is so hard to explain to others... On a BLUE buoy you get a message "The fish managed to wriggle free and swam off - no worries though because your worm is still on the hook. Cast again and use it to catch another fish." when you cast same time as another, on a YELLOW or RED buoy you don't ever see that message, it uses the older internal script message that produces the "Oh dear, it seems that your fish score didn't make it back from our servers. No worries because your catch was added to your earnings just fine. Please wait a few seconds before you cast again." INSTEAD. Which many confuse as lag, or issues or whatever, and they are... simply put... WRONG!... A busy buoy, it's yellow multi? lots of oh dear? yes, you're wriggling my friend!... If this annoys you, move to a new buoy, don't fuss and create issues for the land owner or LGH staff, just either accept it or move on.

While above is the primary cause, there is another thing much like blue buoys that can create the result too.

Ok so, this question gets asked A LOT so I thought I would take the time to write my findings as a PLAYER, not as staff. When I joined LGH and started fishing a little over 2 years ago, I was told it would take me several years to even reach top 100 let alone see good profits. Being I don't really listen to others or like to be told what I can or can't achieve I prefer to set myself goals and set forward to learn it for myself.
